Close Up Of One Of Our Pieces

Information That Will Help You Get The Art You Want...

Art comes in many forms and styles. Abstrakt studio creates dynamic contemporary Art in various formats.

Oil paint on canvas
I often like to get my hands dirty and produce dynamic abstract pieces with rich oil paints on high quality canvas, stretched across a wooden frame. Oil on stretched canvas format lends itself to a very 'organic' look, giving the painting a different feel that evokes a variety of emotions depending on lighting and placement. Oil paint is fantastic for producing rich, colourful pieces as oil paints generally hold more pigment than equivalent acrylic paint.

Acrylic paint on canvas
Acrylics are a fantastic medium to work with. Although often thought of as less organic than oil paint, Acrylics mix well to produce fantastically colour rich pieces that blend well into modern life. Acrylics can produce stunning texture and bring unrivalled depth to a piece. Another advantage of Acrylic paints is the quick drying time which often forces the artist to work in a more spontaneous manner, which can yield a more lively final artwork.

Gicleé print
Giclee' - translating from French as 'spraying of ink'. Printing is done individually, much like an ink jet printer. Information obtained from the original painting is spray printed in microscopic drops of colour on to canvas or fine Art papers. Able to display the full colour spectrum gives these artworks a vibrant, brilliant colour with a velvety texture. The process gives the finished piece the look and texture of an original painting. This style of printing is also referred to as IRIS print.

Digital print
For a modern and cutting edge look many artists, like myself, love to work digitally, producing Art on a PC or Mac. Digital Art can be printed on high quality papers ready for framing or directly onto a canvas sheet to be mounted around a box frame. Digital art lends itself to a new dynamic form of printing direct onto an acrylic sheet which, when mounted off the wall by a few inches gives a fantastic contemporary look.

Materials...

Why is it called oil paint?
The simple answer is: an oil (often linseed oil) is the vehicle for applying the colour pigment on the chosen canvas or other medium. The oil eventually dries off to leave a strong permanent colour on the canvas or other surface. Oil based colours do not change as the oil dries out and can be manipulated and re-worked during the drying out period (curing) which can be months.

What's acrylic paint?
Acrylic paint is a water based plastic paint. Water is the vehicle for carrying the plastic pigments to the canvas or other medium. They are virtually odourless and can be thinned with water. Once dry acrylic paints form a flexible film on the surface and are quite versatile, sticking to most surfaces. Acrylic paints dry very quickly and can be used for a variety of effects from adding texture to thin washes. A great advantage is once dry they are suited to 'high traffic' areas where they may be touched or brushed passed by visitors.

Canvas
Art canvas is the support used for an acrylic or oil painting that is typically made of linen or cotton. Most artists use canvas that is tightly stretched and tacked onto wooden frames. Linen is considered far superior to the heavy cotton for an artistic application
